A MUSICAL SPIRAL
— CONTEXT —
Apologue 2047 is a conceptual performance directed by Chinese director Zhang Yimou and composed of seven tableaux mixing traditional Chinese arts and new technologies. For the second season of this event, TETRO+A produced a scenographic work by the Collectif Scale: Nautilus, an audiovisual and interactive LED installation. Presented at the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing, this exceptional show concludes with a magnificent live performance by Nautilus accompanied by 27 Tibetan dancers.
— INSTALLATION —
Designed and created by Scale, Nautilus is a monumental kinetic structure that responds to the music generated by a piano located at the heart of the device. Accompanied by the Swiss pianist Roumen Kroumov and Tibetan dancers, the artist Joachim Olaya plays live in tandem with light animations that cross through Nautilus and add a dynamic rhythm to the scene in a way that’s both explosive and spectacular. Nautilus is a monumental structure, seven metres high and more than 10 metres wide, composed of 188 LEDs. The light animations are generated by the MIDI of the piano but also played live in a studio in rhythm with the dancers on stage.
Following the success of the performance in Beijing, Nautilus is going on tour this summer to three major theatres in Tianjin, Nanjin and Xi'an.
