JAEGER-LECOULTRE x ZIMOUN
The installation will tour internationally over the period 2020 - 2021. First exhibition in November 2020.
- THE PROJECT -
Within the framework of the program THE SOUND MAKER initiated by JAEGER-LECOULTRE, TETRO orchestrated the creation and production of an artistic installation by provoking a collaboration between the Swiss artist ZIMOUN and the watch brand.
This creation will be presented in China on November 10th as part of an exhibition THE SOUND MAKER of the brand. Then it will travel around the world to be presented during the major events of the brand and the world of Contemporary Art.
- CHALLENGE -
JAEGER-LECOULTRE invited TETRO to conduct a call for artistic projects bringing together several world-renowned creators in order to produce an artistic installation that illustrates the theme THE SOUND MAKER.
The Swiss artist Zimoun was selected for his original concept linking the mechanical world of watchmaking and the natural and dreamlike environment in which the brand has developed.
- CREATIVE WORK PRESENTED -
Zimoun: 1944 prepared dc-motors, metal discs Ø 8 cm, 2020
1944 small motors put the same number of thin metal discs into rotating movements. These movements produce sounds as well as visual structures. The sounds are created by the friction of the metal discs on their base. Each metal disc rotates in its own individual cycle and rhythm. This results in very complex overlongations and cyclical shifts. The resulting noise and visual effects are very lively and in constant change in their microstructures, reminding us of phenomena from nature.
- ARTIST BIOGRAPHY -
Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun's minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates.
Zimoun lives and works in Bern, Switzerland. His work has been presented internationally. Recent displays of his work include exhibitions at the Hayward Gallery London; Museum of Contemporary Art MAC Santiago de Chile; Nam June Paik Art Museum Seoul; Kuandu Museum Taipei; Art Museum Reina Sofia Madrid; Ringling Museum of Art Florida; Mumbai City Museum; National Art Museum Beijing; LAC Museum Lugano; Seoul Museum of Art; Museum MIS São Paulo; Muxin Art Museum Wuzhen; Kunsthalle Bern; Taipei Fine Arts Museum; Le Centquatre Paris; among others.
